Woodside Special Care Centre Gets a Financial Boost

DSC was proud to recently raise a whopping R70, 000 for the Woodside Special Care Centre.

The personal injury law specialists, together with players and sponsors, took to the manicured greens and fairways of Bellville Golf Course to host their inaugural Golf Day with one aim in mind; to generate much-needed income for a genuinely worthy cause.

Woodside Special Care Centre, situated in Rondebosch, Cape Town, currently accommodates 90 children and young adults who suffer profound mental and physical disability. In addition, the centre fosters children who have been neglected, abused or abandoned by their families.

All require specialised care, ranging from speech and language therapy to physiotherapy and professional nursing on a 24-hour basis.

Despite fixed contributions from parents and some support from government, the centre relies on the generosity of donors to meet its monthly costs, estimated at almost R10, 000 per patient per month.

Of the R70, 000 raised, R56 000 was raised on the day and evening of the Golf Day and the balance of R14 000 was raised by further contributions thereafter, including donations from DSC’s own staff, demonstrating DSC’s commitment to giving back to society. As well as raising funds, the Golf Day was conceived to focus the spotlight on the incredible support that the Woodside Special Care Centre provides for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

The golf competition, featuring 24 fourballs, was won by the AG Plastics sponsored duo, Anton van Zyl and Brendon Isaacs. In a lucky draw, Wikus Viljoen snapped up a night for two at the luxurious 5-star Taj Hotel in Cape Town.
