Celeste Munitz (neé Wolpe) (B.A., LL.B)
Celeste was admitted as an attorney in 2000, after gaining sound experience in commercial litigation, JSE listings and mergers whilst completing her contract of articles at a prominent Cape Town law firm. She also practiced in the field of personal injury law and acted for several insurance companies. She elected to pursue her career in the field of personal injury law whilst gaining further experience in the field of insurance law.
Celeste was appointed as a professional assistant at Henry Shields Chiat in 2002, and was promoted to associate at DSC Attorneys after the merger in 2004. Celeste was promoted to senior associate in 2009.
Celeste currently specialises in personal injury law and also has experience in family law (including ante-nuptial contracts, divorces, custody, maintenance and access matters).
Mumtaz Kajie (B. Proc., LL.B)
Mumtaz was admitted as an attorney in 2002 after completing her articles at a prominent Cape Town law firm. Whilst serving her articles and subsequent to her admission, having been invited to stay on as a professional assistant, she gained valuable experience in a number of areas of law, including criminal and civil litigation in the Magistrate’s and High Courts, arbitrations, marital law, labour law, contractual law, wills and estates and motor vehicle accident claims.
From 2003 onwards Mumtaz acted on behalf of the Road Accident Fund as one of their panel attorneys, gaining sound experience in personal injury law.
Mumtaz was appointed as an associate at DSC Attorneys in September 2006 and since then has acted on behalf of the victims of road accidents against the Road Accident Fund. She was promoted to senior associate during 2012.
Mumtaz is regularly involved in High Court litigation in various jurisdictions and has extended her practice to include actions arising out of police assaults as well as actions against Metrorail.
Chris Smit (B.Iuris, LL.B)
After graduating in 1994, Chris took up a position with the Department of Justice in Mpumalanga as a prosecutor in the Regional Courts. In 1997 he relocated to Cape Town and completed his articles with Van der Maas & Associates in 1998, whereafter he was admitted as attorney.
Chris joined DSC Attorneys in 2006 and shortly thereafter he was promoted to associate and to senior associate during 2012.
Chris specializes in personal injury law and has extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation as well as family law. In addition to acting on behalf of victims of road accidents against the Road Accident Fund, Chris has acted in matters relating to police assaults, unlawful arrests and unlawful detentions, as well as medical malpractice matters.
Dawie Maartens (B. Comm., LL.B)
After completing his articles Dawie was admitted as an attorney in 2003. During the course of his articles and subsequent to his admission Dawie gained extensive experience in criminal and civil litigation in both the Magistrate’s and High Courts, as well as arbitrations.
Dawie joined DSC Attorneys in 2008 as a professional assistant and was promoted to associate in 2010.
Dawie specializes in personal injury law and has extended his practice to include actions arising out of police assaults, general insurance litigation, as well as actions against Metrorail and “slip and fall” claims.
Sanél van Zyl (LL.B)
After completing her articles with Conradie Inc., Sanél was admitted as an attorney in 2006. She was invited to stay on as a professional assistant and gained experience in criminal work, general litigation, arbitration and personal injury law.
In 2007 Sanél was appointed as a professional assistant at DSC Attorneys and has continued to specialise in personal injury law. She was promoted to associate during 2012.
Sanél also completed a certificate course in medical law for legal practitioners during 2010.
