Henry Shields (B.A., B.Proc.)
Henry Shields practised in the areas of commercial and litigation law, and was a member of the leading civil rights law firm, Mallinicks, before specialising in personal injury law.
His special areas of interest include personal injury claims such as spinal, whiplash and subtle brain injury, as well as international / multi-territorial claims.
He serves ATLA ( Association of Trial Lawyers of America ) as a Governor and has served the IBA ( International Bar Association ) in various capacities.
Henry has spoken and published on 4 continents on the topics of contingency, access to law for all people, compensation systems and personal injury in general. He develops and delivers training programmes for candidate attorneys. He regularly talks on radio on legal topics.
His passion is music and he is a Director of the MARIMBA RESTAURANT, MUSIC & EVENTS group of companies. The renowned African Jazz Pioneers recorded music composed by Shields and he has produced many jazz, blues and world music festivals and cd's. He enjoys family camping trips, cycling and travel.
Alan Chiat (B.A., L.L.B.)
Alan is a born and bred Capetonian who studied at UCT and was admitted as an attorney in January 1985.
Alan has extensive litigation experience having been a partner at Bernadt Vukic Potash & Getz until October 1997 when he joined Henry Shields as a founding partner in the personal injury law firm, Henry Shields Chiat. On the 1 May 2004, Alan became a consultant in the merged firm of DSC Attorneys.
Alan is a keen sportsman having been actively involved in sport and sport administration for 3 decades at the highest level. He is in addition a Director of the Marimba Group of Companies incorporating Marimba Restaurant at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
